For more than 20 years, former Georgia State Senator Preston Smith has served as a healthcare industry executive. The youngest senator ever elected to the Georgia General Assembly, Preston Smith supports a number of charitable causes including the American Heart Association.
Nearly 800,000 people across the United States are affected by heart disease. The American Heart Association (AHA) is teaming with leading companies to help reduce that number through Heart Walks, three-mile fundraising walks that are aimed at bringing awareness to the dangers of heart disease while promoting physical fitness.
AT&T, UnitedHealth Group, and Union Bank are just some of the major companies that are working with the AHA to make these walks successful. Over the past 25 years, these events have raised almost $1.6 billion. This money goes toward important programs that research new ways to treat heart disease, educate the public about healthy-heart living, and increase public awareness to help prevent heart disease.
